Groundbreaking for Police Memorial May 16

Cuyahoga Falls and Silver Lake Police Lodge 49 will break ground on the police memorial May 16, after the annual Police Memorial Service.

The public is invited to the memorial service to be held at 10 a.m. at the Natatorium, and the groundbreaking ceremony immediately following in the area between the Natatorium and City Hall.

Eat steak, support police memorial

Cuyahoga Falls Moose Lodge 918 is hosting a steak dinner May 5 to benefit the Cuyahoga Falls and Silver Lake Police Memorial and Honor Guard Foundation.

Tickets are $15 and available at the Moose Lodge, Falls Chief Tom Pozza's office, or by calling 330-923-9248. The dinner will be held at the Lodge, located at 4444 State Road.

Menards to be anchor in State Road redevelopment

CUYAHOGA FALLS: A home improvements store — a relative newcomer to the Akron area — is the latest tenant announced for the Portage Crossing development in Cuyahoga Falls.

Developer Bob Stark made the announcement during Monday’s Falls City Council meeting that Menards will be an anchor tenant in the redevelopment effort on the site of the former State Road shopping center.

Falls Park Board to study Natatorium rates, decide in May

CUYAHOGA FALLS: The Cuyahoga Falls Park and Recreation Board will revisit the Natatorium spousal discount in May.

The rate became an issue when Shane and Coty May, an Akron same sex married couple, were denied the discounted spousal rate because of Natatorium policy to follow the Ohio Constitution.

Becker employs students at Rock FRESH

Rockne Becker is operating a new place at 3883 State Road in Cuyahoga Falls called Rock FRESH, and he’s got some help — students from the business class at Woodridge High School.

Becker wanted young workers who were interested in learning the restaurant business from the ground up, so he contacted the school and solicited recommendations from teachers before hiring seven students.

University of Akron teams with Falls High to offer college courses

Cuyahoga Falls students who qualify can take advance math classes for college credit without leaving the high school campus beginning in the fall.

Superintendent/CEO Dr. Todd Nichols on Thursday said two current high school math teachers with Masters degrees can be hired by the Univeristy of Akron as adjunct professors. Those teachers will teach Algebra II, Enriched Calculus and Advanced Placement Calculus.

Protecting Cuyahoga River goal of Falls planning commission

Falls Planning Director Fred Guerra on Tuesday asked the planning commission to consider a change to the city's stream corridor protection ordinance that will include the Cuyahoga River and other waterways within the city.

The current Falls General Development Code contains extreme water corridor protections for the Northampton area only, even though the river and other creeks and streams run throughout the city, Guerra said.

Public hearing set for April 9 on assisted living and skilled nursing center

CUYAHOGA FALLS: A public hearing will be held Monday during the Cuyahoga Falls Council meeting to talk about a resolution to approve the issuance of bonds by Franklin County that will benefit a Cuyahoga Falls assisted living and skilled nursing center.

Falls law director Paul Janis said the city is not financially responsible for issuing the bonds or paying bond purchasers. He said the city incurs no debt for the bonds.
