CUYAHOGA FALLS: Ward 4 Councilman Mark Ihasz will resign, effective Friday.
Ihasz, a Democrat who served nearly three two-year terms, is moving out of state. He began his council service when he won an open seat for Ward 4 after Republican Doug Flinn resigned in 2007.
Rumors that Ihasz planned to resign surfaced earlier this year. But even after admitting in May that his home had been sold and he planned to move out of the ward, Ihasz refused to talk about his future as the Ward 4 representative.
When he didn’t file to run for re-election in June, that question was answered.
On Monday, council Clerk Cathy Meacham announced Ihasz’s resignation for the record. He did not attend his last council meeting.
Summit County Democrats will choose Ihasz’s replacement during a meeting of the Ward 4 Central Committee, at 4:30 p.m. July 23 at Rocco’s Pizza, 1053 Portage Trail.
Applicants must be registered Democrats and residents of Ward 4. The winner would have to run in November to keep the seat past Jan. 1.
Resumes should be sent by 4 p.m. July 23 to: Wayne Jones, Summit County Democratic Party chairman, 438 Grant St., Akron, OH 44311.
