Arrests

A Kennedy Boulevard woman, 50, was charged Dec. 9 with cruelty to animals after she allegedly suffocated her two cats. The woman was found in her apartment with a self-inflicted knife wound. Her home health-care aide told police she found suicide notes. She was transported to a local hospital.

A Hudson man, 19, was charged with criminal trespass Dec. 10 and a Hardman Drive woman, 19, was charged with obstructing official business. He is accused of being on Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority property after receiving notice to stay away. She is accused of lying to police and helping the man leave through a bedroom window.

A former employee of Toys R Us, 590 Howe Ave., was charged with theft Dec. 12 after he allegedly failed to ring up more than $6,000 in purchases.

Burglary

A woman told police Dec. 11 that someone walked into her house through an unlocked front door but left without taking anything.

Forgery

A man reported Dec. 10 that someone forged and cashed three business checks for a total of $900.

Identity theft

A Sixth Street man reported Dec. 8 that someone used his personal information to make three fraudulent bank transactions for more than $600.

A Lake View Drive man reported Dec. 10 that someone opened credit accounts in his name and charged more than $5,000.

Theft by deception

An East Prescott Circle woman, 71, told police Dec. 9 that she wired $1,725 to a Massachusetts address because a man posing as her grandson said he had been arrested and needed the money for bail.

A Chart Road woman reported Dec. 11 that a woman who claims to be from Jamaica has been sending her father phony Social Security checks and telling him to deposit the checks in his account, withdraw cash and wire the cash to her.

Thefts

Someone stole $1,400 in electronic equipment from an Eighth Street home Dec. 7.

A man stole 12 Hershey candy bars Dec. 8 from Sheetz, 1210 Main St. Eight candy bars were stolen Dec. 9.

Someone stole a $700 security system Dec. 7 from Sam's Club, 1189 Buchholzer Boulevard.
