An Extreme Fire Risk Warning issued statewide on June 29 by State Fire Marshall Larry Flowers has lead to the cancellation of the Kent Heritage Festival fireworks display.
"The decision was made primarily due to the fact that not only is the ground cover extremely dry, it has persisted for some time thus creating conditions that are not conductive for fireworks displays," Lt. Richard O. Lynn said in a press release.
This decision may be reconsidered if there is significant rainfall before this weekend's festival.
