CUYAHOGA FALLS: Twice, members of the Summit County Republican Central Committee chose between two candidates to represent Ward 3 and run for election in November.

On Tuesday, Republican voters confirmed the party's final choice and picked Victor Pallotta, the current Ward 3 councilman, in the primary election by a vote of 242-to-158.

On May 21, Ward 3 precinct committee members met to choose a replacement for councilman Ken Barnhart, who stepped down after 16 years.  The committee chose Arden Barnhart, Ken's wife, and owner of Ad Graphics, by a vote of 3-to-2.

But before she could take a seat at her first meeting, the first ballot was thrown out.

Questions were raised over whether a secret ballot was contrary to Ohio's open-meeting laws.

During the second vote, an additional precinct committee member attended and Pallotta came out on top by a vote of 4-to-2.

In November’s general election, Pallotta will face Democrat Mike Penta, who defeated Michael Michelli in Tuesday’s primary.
