Panama, Thunderstruck jump to Rockin’ on the River stage

Chances are if you dial up any classic rock-playing FM station in the area, an AC/DC song will be playing. Whether its a song with original singer Bon Scott or his replacement Brian Johnson, there are few more popular bands.

As such, there are myriad tribute bands. In this area, there may be no better than Thunderstruck, who headline Rockin’ on the River Friday with co-headliner Panama.

All the way down to his endless soloing and purple short shorts, Thunderstruck lead guitarist Freddy DeMarco perfectly mimes AC/DC’s Angus Young. Check out the band playing “You Shook Me All Night Long” at Rockin’ on River in 2010 here.

Most of the real Van Halen’s summer tour may have been postponed (including a July 28 Cleveland show), but the band’s speed solos can still be heard. Panama plays on the David Lee Roth-era VH tunes, so expect lots of leg kicks and screams in Cuyahoga Falls.

As always, each week’s Rockin’ on the River starts at 5 p.m. at the Riverfront in Cuyahoga Falls. Admission is free.
