Aaron Sandberg of Walsh Jesuit recovered from a loss in the semifinals and won his third-place match against Perrysburg junior Jeffrey Schorsch 6-2, 6-1 Saturday at Ohio State University Outdoor Tennis Courts.

Walsh coach Rocco Cona lauded Sandberg’s third-place finish.

“After being disappointed, he got himself together and played two real good, smart sets. Very pleased with his game today; it was hot and very noisy out there,” Cona said.

Sandberg, a sophomore, lost 6-2, 6-3 in the semis to senior Colton Buffington of Westlake, who went on to win the state title. Buffington also defeated Sandberg last week in a district final.

“He [Sandberg] did not play well last week, but he gave him a good fight today,” Cona said. “Hopefully this will inspire him to work for next season.
