CUYAHOGA FALLS: Fireworks will highlight the 2012 opening day celebration of the ice rink at Falls River Square.
The festivities will begin Saturday at noon with free skating until 9 p.m. Skate rental is available for $3.
The Pavilion will become a holiday gift shop from noon to 6 p.m., and Santa will be in the house from 1 to 4 p.m. with a free gift for every child who visits him, courtesy of New Day Fellowship.
Holiday characters Frosty the Snowman, the Grinch, Rudolph and a Christmas tree will visit the rink. Carolers will sing and holiday music will play throughout the day.
Children can enjoy free train rides from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The community tree lighting ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. and Kent State University skaters will perform.
Fireworks will end the official celebration, although the rink will stay open until 9 p.m. The Bicentennial Torch will light the sky all day.
